"Why the IPCC has chosen to take a stand on this issue -- to defend the indefensible -- is beyond me. If you truly believe that science is self-correcting and truth wins in the end, then the IPCC has staked out a position that it cannot win on in the long term, no matter how much spin is applied in the short term. Apparently, however the short term has a ways yet to run..."

"The APS, like many other scientific professional societies, made a statement supporting the theory of catastrophic anthropogenic global warming on 18 November 2007. This statement was not approved by the members of APS and was only approved by the APS Council members of that time. The membership of these societies are rarely consulted. There has been a similar revolt of members of the American Chemical Society for instance for this reason. Such statements implicitly imply that scientific truth is determined by those society members who aspire to hold offices in the society. This is not the case. It is also not the case that scientific truth is determined even by a vote of the society membership."

Today's Thought
If we are to spend trillions of dollars on fixing warming, don’t you think we should be able to work out how to read ONLY 7000 thermometers regularly!!
One of my beliefs is that the IPCC is a money hungry political organization with no concerns about correcting any scientific details like not melting glaciers, which might get in the way of it’s growth and funding. So if I’m right, where are the demands for funding better and more complete thermometer data?

The sophisticates who prattle endlessly about Westminster coups, and the machinations of the political classes – which are becoming ever more detached from their roots – may believe they are at the centre of things. But the real stuff of politics is whether people are able to keep warm when it is freezing, whether they can afford to eat, and whether they can get to work when global warming lies feet deep on the ground - just supposing they still have jobs.

"Observation shows that despite increasing atmospheric CO2 content and accelerating human emissions, the atmospheric temperature has actually fallen since 1999. In scientific terms the hypothesis has been falsified.
This is the position of the climate sceptics and it is the proper scientific one. We are not looking for data to disprove warming, we are saying that the existing data don’t support the theory of anthropogenic global warming. "

"On the same day that Senators Kerry and Boxer introduce a massive new energy tax, which even members of their own party don't support, the Administration is quietly moving to impose a backdoor energy tax through EPA. Today is the first step in that process-and it's clear that EPA is violating the Clean Air Act. EPA's proposal will not survive legal scrutiny, and once it's thrown out by the courts, schools, hospitals, farms and millions of other sources will face the heavy hand of new federal regulations. As a former mayor, it's clear this new tax will grind economic growth to a halt in cities and communities across America. I will say this: at some point, Congress will intervene to stop EPA from implementing the Administration's backdoor energy tax."

"India and China insist on being exempt from binding emission limits, yet they preach the gospel of climate catastrophe. This is untenable. Almost all the emissions growth over the next several decades will come from developing countries. While President Obama says that global warming "science is beyond dispute and the facts are clear" and Krugman says the "warming deniers" have "contempt for hard science," the record reveals a different story. If anyone has contempt for hard science, it is the Krugman leftists, who, either because of their political agenda or ideological predispositions, refuse to acknowledge -- let alone consider -- opposing opinions, even when they come from "hard scientists."
One way they deal with the very real fact that there is significant opposition to their dogmatic conclusions is to personally attack their opponents, usually saying evil corporations with vested interests in destroying the planet have bought them off. Just as often, they simply out-yell, ridicule, ignore or attempt to silence them. Remember when MIT's Richard Lindzen acknowledged that many scientists refuse to publicize their dissent to make "their lives easier"?

The Federal EPA is about to officially declare carbon dioxide to be a pollutant. That's not just false and unscientific; it's not just an excuse for taxing everything in sight, including breathing. It's not merely wrong. It's idiotic. It marks a low point in our national conversation. Scientists or engineers with a grain of sense shouldn't be taking the EPA seriously for a second. Forget the "climate experts," with their grossly inadequate computer models. Normally intelligent people should boggle at the EPA. They are bizarre. Only the truly ignorant could fall for this level of ignorance. Or those who just can't think.
